This condition severely affects Matthew's developmental abilities as well as motor skills. Matthew is unable to walk or speak and is completely depedent upon caregivers, specialists, and family to assist in his daily living skills. Because Matthew's condition is so rare, insurance will not recognize Matthew has having a disability. Therefore, he is denied coverage for the cost of therapies, medical attention, and specialized equipment he requires to maintain a quality of life and his parents pay these expenses out of pocket.
